Car insurance, though a necessity, is continuously increasing because of a lot of factors. In the news, Norwich Union announced in August 2006 that it was increasing the cost of its car insurance cover by 16%, which caused a big stir among car drivers who buy car insurance. Actually, the increase may reach up to 40% for some drivers. Along with this, the cost of accident damage and personal injury claims is rising rapidly, further adding to the stir. So consider buying insurance as early as possible.

If you want to take your dog out for a ride, fear not. Progressive Corp. now covers your pets under their premiums’ umbrellas. If your pet gets into an accident, has been injured or dies, the company will cover $500.00 as the pet’s insurance (nothing will be added to your premium. So, basically, it’s for free! Or maybe, more of a perk). Although veterinarian costs are much higher than $500.00 (depending on the accident), some prominent people in the insurance industry applauded Progressive Corp. for their efforts in taking into consideration the welfare of animals.

This insurance coverage for pets does not promote reckless or irresponsible driving. You’re still obliged to drive safely.

As a motorist, I’ve had my share of accidents and other incidents related to my automobile and even as a pedestrian. So far, I’ve been lucky I haven’t been in a major accident yet. In all these instances I’ve had light fender benders and scrapes with the pavement and the parking meter (I’m not an expert with parallel parking yet). In these cases my car insurance has helped defray the cost of repairs, both for me and even those I’ve had accidents with.
